Overview
HAT (Hand Assist Tool) is an Android-based IoT application developed for UK smart-meter installation and diagnostic workflows. The application supports field technicians working with electric and gas meters, providing dual-band Home Area Network (HAN) survey capabilities and HHT proxy functionality through a Wi-Fi-enabled mobile device.
The problem
Smart-meter installation and diagnostic work requires technicians to assess local network conditions and communicate with smart-meter equipment in the field. These workflows need a reliable handheld tool that can operate with connected metering infrastructure.
What I built
Developed a Java-based Android IoT application with Wi-Fi support for UK smart-meter installation and diagnostic workflows. Implemented dual-band HAN survey capabilities and HHT proxy functionality to support field technicians working with electric and gas meters.
Provided field technicians with a dedicated mobile tool for smart-meter installation and diagnostics, bringing HAN surveying and HHT proxy functionality into a single Android application.
